Getting Care

How and when do you start getting care under Bayou Health?

As soon as you are eligible for Medicaid or LaCHIP

As soon as you or your family members are eligible for Medicaid or LaCHIP you can start getting healthcare services.

After you are in a Bayou Health Plan

After you are in Bayou Health, you can call your PCP to make an appointment if you need care. If you have questions about your care, call your Health Plan. When you go to an appointment, take your Medicaid card and your new Health Plan I.D. card with you.

Letter confirming you are in a Health Plan: After you are in a Health Plan, you will receive a letter from Bayou Health listing your Health Plan and your PCP, if you requested one. The letter will tell you when you can start using the Plan and seeing your doctors.

If you did not choose a Health Plan: If you did not choose, a Plan will be chosen for you, and you will get a letter listing your Plan. The letter will tell you when you can start using the Health Plan.

When can you start using services at your new Health Plan? You can start using your Health Plan's services on the date provided in your confirmation letter. If you have questions call Bayou Health at 1-855-BAYOU-4U (1-855-229-6848).

You will also get a letter from your Health Plan about Plan services. You will get an I.D. card to take to all your medical visits. If you have questions about Plan services or about PCPs, call your Plan .
